What’s been going on lately
A couple of weeks ago Gram Cohen was admitted to the hospital due to pain she was having in her back. Turned out she had bone cancer and it had spread to her lungs. After a couple of days in the hospital, she was transferred to a hospice just down the road where she spent her final days. One of the things she loved to do with Norah was play “patty cake”. On the first day we were able to see her in the hospital, Mom was holding Norah and brought her to Gram and put Norah’s hand in Gram’s. Gram rolled over and played her last game of “patty cake”. Brought everyone to tears in the room, and still does to me thinking of it.
Next up…. So, remember those lovely photos of Norah just hanging out with Meg and I on the couch? Turns out she is RSV positive, which could have been the cause of her fever (102.8 at the highest), or it could have been caused by her ear infection. Either way, we ended up admitted to the Childrens hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center. Norah’s blood oxygen levels were too low so she had to have oxygen blown in her face since she was too young to keep a mask on and had various drugs to help clear up the chest congestion. After an initial dose of antibiotic in the ER, I was on duty for Sunday’s overnight and after her IV had to come out because it was blocked, her doctor said she needed more antibiotics, and they were to come via an injection. Thankfully, the nurse agreed with me that after having a rough time falling asleep we could give her the shots in the morning. Well at 5 AM 2 nurses came in for the dual injections because it had to be done at the same time. While I helped keep Norah still she just kept crying out “Oh no! Oh no! Oh no!”. Absolutely broke my heart, I think I could have handled her saying “No! No! No!” but the addition of “oh” just made me realize she really does understand more and more about this world.
Well, on Friday they turned into this:
Thankfully, Monday night we were able to bring Norah home to continue her treatment and have a follow up on Wednesday to see where she stands. Hopefully her levels are still up so we don’t have to be admitted again.
Auntie Shar sent Norah some balloons and a new teddy bear to help cheer her up. Today was a better day so baby steps to being healthy!

Hi. Sorry to hear about Nora. Sounds like it must have been really hard of her and you both. Glad she is back home and hope all goes well today.
